YD-81
SPECIFICATIONS
Characteristics
A black, high quality, strongly adhesive sealing band based on butyl rubber with plasto-elastic properties. The particularly strong tackiness provides a firm lamination between the contact surfaces and, therefore, a reliable sealing effect. Terostat-81 is self-welding. Higher temperature influence for a short time has no adverse effect on quality and function.
Terostat-81 is aging resistant and is used for numerous application purposes due to its excellent adhesion to cleaned metallic and non-metallic material surfaces.
For industrial line production Terostat-81 is also available in 50 l hobbocks and can be applied by suitable equipment which can be heated.

APPLICATIONS
Application areas
Terostat-81 is used for sealing and bonding in the areas listed below:
– sealing, antiflutter and bonding of trim panels, protective and covering trims, protective panels in the container and tank manufacture
– sealing of overlapping steel, steel sheet, aluminium, glass and plastic constructions in the sheet fabricating industry, in the electrical industry or in apparatus and machinery engineering
– bonding of PE foils, plastic sheets (e.g. EPDM) or parts in plastic engineering and manufacture
– as protection against contact corrosion between steel and nonferrous metals
– in the electrical industry for sealing and bedding parts with low vibration.
Preparation for sealing
The surfaces to be sealed must be dry, free of oil, dust, grease and other contaminants(e.g. release agents). On porous substrates we recommend the use of Primer-188. Precheck compatibility with the substrates prior to use on plastics.
Application as sealing strip
Cut to the required length and then applied to the substrates to be sealed and lightly pressed on. We recommend that removal of the release paper or release foil occurs only after application, and pressing on. In that way, an unwanted stretching of the strip during unrolling can be prevented, and the sealing band is protected against contamination as well. After pulling off the release paper the counterpart is put on and – if necessary – the entire part is mechanically fixed.
